Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa Review: Truth or Consequences’ Hot Springs Gem (2026)
Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa is a 17-room hot springs resort in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico — now a Ted Turner Retreat. I stumbled on it while planning a White Sands trip and it totally exceeded my expectations: free daily thermal pool soaks, rustic southwestern rooms, and surprisingly excellent food. It’s absolutely worth the detour.
I found Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa when I was looking for a place to stay during my trip to White Sands, and I was so happy with the place! It’s such a unique gem — the kind of spot you almost don’t want to tell people about.
The Room
The room was cute and infused with rustic charm — a southwestern, wild west look with a tub in a cute wooden framing. Each room includes a genuinely generous set of perks:
- Complimentary 30-minute soak in the thermal pools every day
- Complimentary continental breakfast
- Complimentary WiFi
- Complimentary use of the gym (open 24/7)
- Coffee, tea, and filtered water in the lobby around the clock
- Flat-screen TV, DVD player, and mini fridge
Beyond the lodge rooms, Sierra Grande also has La Casita — a private cottage with two beds, two baths, a kitchen, and both an indoor and outdoor hot tub. I’m definitely staying in La Casita next time.
The Thermal Pools
The headline act: every guest gets a free 30-minute soak in the thermal pools daily. There are both indoor and outdoor pools fed by the area’s natural geothermal hot springs. We soaked in the outdoor pool the first day — awesome — and the indoor pool the second day, which has paintings on the walls. The water comes from the same mineral-rich springs the region’s Native Americans used for centuries.
The Food (Surprisingly Excellent)
The food at the lodge restaurant was sooo good! Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much in the middle of the desert — but every dish from breakfast to dinner was delicious. I would come back just to eat here.
The Premises
The lodge is filled with cute cacti everywhere. There’s a fireplace and couch in the lobby plus books to read — it has that perfect desert-lodge coziness.
Things to Do Near Sierra Grande
Go on a Ted Turner Expedition. Sierra Grande offers eco-conscious adventure tours customized just for you, with private guides crafting the perfect outing — hiking, biking, wildlife tours, birding, and more across Turner’s half-million acres of wildlands.
Go boating at Elephant Butte Lake State Park. Just 8 minutes away — go boating, fishing, or just hang out and enjoy the water.
Visit White Sands National Park. About 90 minutes away. It’s a desert of sparkling white gypsum sand — one of the most surreal landscapes in the US. (It was upgraded from a National Monument to a National Park in 2019.)

Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa is in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico — about a two-hour drive south of Albuquerque and two hours north of El Paso. It’s an easy add-on to any southern New Mexico road trip.
Verdict: The rare hotel where the free stuff — the hot springs soak, the breakfast — is the best stuff.
