Casa Burano Hotel Review: Staying on Burano Island (2026)
Casa Burano is one of the only places to stay overnight on Burano Island — a “hotel diffuso” of renovated colorful houses run by the Venissa wine resort, with 13 design-forward rooms from around $150/night. I stayed inside an actual Burano house, ate the best pasta of my life at their Michelin-starred sister restaurant, and got the island to myself at sunrise. If you’re visiting Venice, this is the move.
When I first walked up to the door of Casa Burano, I was so surprised — our hotel was actually a renovated Burano house! I’d always seen pictures of the colorful houses, but I never thought I’d get to stay inside one. I was thrilled!
The Rooms
The rooms are so spacious and modern. Mine had a really fancy shower system and a tub with a spacious counter. My friend’s room was also lovely — she had an upstairs living area. The design mixes exposed brick, artisan furnishings, and local textiles across five traditional houses, each with a shared ground-floor lounge for coffee and reading.
The Breakfast
Casa Burano packs a cute breakfast for you in a picnic basket, which you enjoy in the common area downstairs. Simple, charming, very Burano.
The Restaurant & Vineyard: Venissa
Casa Burano’s sister property is Venissa, a Michelin-starred restaurant on Burano’s sister island of Mazzorbo — a quick 10-minute walk away, set on its own vineyard. The pasta there was the best pasta I’ve ever had; I could taste the homemade freshness. They also produce a one-of-a-kind white wine with the characteristics of a red wine. Do not skip dinner here.
The Perks of Staying on Burano
Explore before the tourists arrive. You get sunrise and sunset on the island while avoiding the daytime crowds.
Skip the crowded ferry from Venice. Day-trippers queue for the vaporetto from Venice; you wake up already there.
Enjoy the reverse commute. Take the ferry to Murano or Venice with the boat practically to yourself, since everyone else is traveling the opposite direction.
Verdict: Staying overnight on Burano is the cheat code — you get the colorful island to yourself after the day-trippers leave.
