Glamping in Big Sur – Treebones Resort

Glamping in Big Sur – Treebones Resort

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway from San Francisco, Treebones Resort is your spot. Located at the southern end of Big Sur, Treebones Resort is glamping at it’s finest. It is a hip place filled with yurts, treehouses/nests, and two campsites. There are communal bathrooms and showers and other amenities that you wouldn’t get if you were just camping. This resort books up quickly so if you want to stay here, make sure to book in advance – their weekends are usually booked two months out.

Types of Accommodation

The Nest

Imagine living in this nest! The bed takes up the whole inside and there’s no windows or doors, so hopefully it’s not too windy at night (and hopefully it’s not raining)! You have to bring your own sleeping bags to sleep there. There’s storage for your luggage at the bottom of the nest. Bringing a tent is recommended in case of rain.

The Yurts

Most of the property is filled with yurts (circular tents made of fabric). The yurts are very big and spacious and comes with a bed, table, and couch. It also has it’s own patio where you can sit and read a book or enjoy the sunset.

Treehouses

Look at these cute treehouses that you can also stay in. The tree hut below is similar to the nest in that it’s open, so wind and animals can come in. Bring sleeping bag and a tent.

The Shell (Autonomous Tent)

There’s a huge structure that looks like a shell and is known as the autonomous tent. As it’s name suggests, this shell is off on its own, away from most of the property, so it gives you the most privacy. Surprisingly, my friend’s friend happened to be staying in the autonomous tent the weekend we were there, so we got to take a peak inside. In addition to having a bed and leather chairs, it has a bathroom, shower, and fireplace! There’s no need to use the communal bathrooms. You also get an amazing view of the California coast all to yourself.

Campsites

There’s two campsites for those who want to go camping but also want to enjoy the nice grounds at the resort. Just like normal camping, you would bring your tent and sleeping bags. There are showers and bathrooms. Campfires are not allowed at the resort, so you can either cook with camping stoves, eat at the restaurant in the resort, or drive somewhere for food.

Dining

There is a restaurant that serves American type cuisine. There’s also a sushi restaurant, but it was closed when we stayed there so I didn’t get a chance to try it.

Breakfast is included in the reservation. The view from the restaurant is beautiful so I recommend eating outside.

Things to Do

Relax at the Pool/Jacuzzi

There’s a pretty big pool and a cozy sized jacuzzi for guests to enjoy.

Watch Sunset on the Swing Bed

There’s a swing bed where you can relax and watch the sunset or watch the whales. We didn’t see any whales but a few other guests did!

Do Yoga

Treebones has this cool stage for doing yoga. They offer morning yoga sessions every day but Tuesday. They offer afternoon yoga sessions Saturdays and Tuesdays. They also have private yoga sessions that you can reserve.

Explore the Garden

Treebones has a garden filled with all types of vegetables and flowers! There’s even chickens walking around.

Explore Big Sur

If you want to leave the resort, you can drive along the coastline and stop at a bunch of beaches or find a trail to hike. The resort is an hour south of the famous Bixby Bridge.

Location

Treebones Resort is located in Big Sur. It is 4 hours south of San Francisco and 4.5 hours north of Los Angeles.
