Where to Find Almond Blossoms in Northern California

Iโve spent many spring seasons searching for almond blossoms near San Francisco and I think Iโve finally got it down! Seeing the almond blossoms during the peak bloom was definitely worth the chase and I know yโall want to see it too, since one of the most popular questions that I get in my Instagram DMโs is where to find the almond blossoms. So Iโm writing this blog post to tell you everything you need to know about seeing these trees in full bloom.

When almond trees are in full bloom, they have white blossoms on them (in addition to large almonds). When the blossoms fall off the trees, it looks like snow is falling makin it a truly magical sight. The blossoms make for great photos, so this is a popular spot for professional photographers. The photographers bring props and everything (there happened to be a photographer who brought this nice set up when I was there so I got to take a photo in it).

When is the best time to see the almond blossoms?
The almond trees are in bloom between mid-February to mid March. Late Feburary to early March is uaully the best time to catch them in full bloom. Mid March is when a lot of the blossoms start falling to the ground, so the ground looks nice for photos too. This timeframe is around the rainy season, so sometimes the dirt is wet and your shoes/clothes might get a little muddy.

Where are the almond blossoms located?
There are a ton of almond tree orchards in Yolo County just an hour outside of San Francisco and 20 minutes outside of Sacramento. The orchards are located right off the 113 freeway between David and Woodland. Youโll see the trees right from the freeway. Once you see them, you should take the next exit and follow your eyes. I donโt remember the name of the exit we took, but itโs somewhere halfway between David and Woodland (the 113 freeway is only a 15 minute drive one way so if you get lost itโs doesnโt take too long to go back around). There is plenty of roadside parking along the orchards. The orchards are farmerโs land, so please remember to be respectful of the property. You donโt have to wander too far in the property to get nice photos. To rent a car, you can check out Discover Cars to find the best deal.
If you go visit, let me know what you thought of the almond blossoms!
