Dog Friendly Spots – Yosemite National Park

Dog Friendly Spots – Yosemite National Park

Yosemite is so pretty that I’m sure you want your dog to experience it. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on trails and are restricted to very few spots in the park. They’re allowed on developed roads, most campgrounds (other than group or walk in ones), and must be leashed.

Places where dogs are allowed in Yosemite:

Yosemite Valley:
1. Bridalveil Falls
2. Lower Yosemite Falls
3. Cook’s Meadow
4. Mirror Lake (note – dogs can walk on the service road to the lake, but there’s a sign that says no dogs past this point when you get to the lake, so your dog is technically not allowed to see the lake…)

Glacier Point Road:
5. Washburn Point
6. Glacier Point

Wawona Road:
7. Tunnel View

Hodgdon Meadow:
8. Carlon Road from the trailhead to Hodgdon Meadow
9. Old Big Oak Flat Road from Hodgdon Meadow to Tuolumne Grove parking lot

If you’re familiar with any of these spots, you’ll notice that they are basically viewpoints or very short walks on paved roads (if you’re not familiar with these spots, I have another blog postthat describes most of them). I have a husky and she has so much energy, so Yosemite isn’t the best spot to bring her since she’s not allowed on the real hiking trails. However, if you just want your dog to enjoy the views, smell the fresh air, and get some pictures, Yosemite lets you do that!
